33rd Sunday Ordinary Time (C)
(Luke 21: 5-19)
The Gospel is about the end of the world. We know the world will end and it will end in the Second Coming of Christ. (Parousia in Greek). In theology, more appropriate or progressive to use the words: “END TIME FULFILLMENT” – than – “END OF THE WORD”. Which one is the more striking to hear?
When we say “end of the world” – it is negative or the connotation is pessimistic. It connotes destruction. When we say “end fulfilment’’ it is positive or the connotation is optimistic. It connotes perfection of all things, which the completion of God’ creation, where God will be in everything in everything.
So in the end of time, there will be radical change: No more pains. No more tears. No more suffering. All will be happy! Everything perfect!
But this end of the world to say, as Jesus said in the Gospel, “No one knows the day or the hour” And no one will wasting a time to find out. The important:
1. One must be prepared.
2. Our waiting must be an active waiting, not a passive one. It is not truthful that we just wait doing nothing. We need service, develop, adjust and take in the event of the world that we live.
3 The radical change should come not from without, it should come from within.
We want change, but the question where do we looking for, to the other people or within us? Before we change the other, we must first change ourselves. Before you fix the other problem, you must fix first your problem. It means if we want change, start it with ourselves.
My brothers and sisters, you cannot change the world, but you can change yourself. This is the only we can do and we can share to the change of the world, we are preparing the world for the Final Coming of Christ.
Jesus is telling us, we do not afraid “End of the world”. He assures us that as we wait for the end time fulfilment, he is with us, here and now.
While we are waiting, help to bring this world to the Change, as we move.
