He was transfigured before their eyes

I.We are now on the 2nd Sunday of Lent. At tauon-taon kapag 2nd Sunday of Lent, ang Gospel reading ay tungkol sa,– Pagbabagong-anyo ni Hesus - the Lord’s  Transfiguration. (A change in appearance or form)

The meaning of the Lord’s Transfiguration? Bakit sila isinama? Ano purpose?

1.This transfiguration – is a “preview” – a “glimpse” – an “anticipation” of  the glory of Christ.

-          paunang pagpapakita ng kaluwalhatian ni Hesus. Bago dumating ang kanyang “suffering and death”.

2.This transfiguration – is a moment of revelation. The beloved Son of God.

3.Also, at para sa mga apostles, kay Peter, James at John – this transfiguration is a moment of seeing things in a totally different way. A new way of seeing Christ. Seeing Christ in a totally different way.

-          Jesus is not only a prophet. Not only a miracle worker. But the Son of God himself. Anak ng Diyos at Diyos mismo.

III.And the purpose of the vision, of the revelation is to strengthened their faith. To prepare them for the scandal of the Cross and to sustain them during hard times and moments of trials.

-          that they may have the comfort and consolation for all the struggles and sufferings that they have to undergo.

IV.Modern psychologists say, “What we see rules our behavior” – nagiging pamantayan ng kilos o galaw natin.

Story: The kissing Abbot
-          a monk was walking in the village. While walking , he saw his abbot kiss a young lady on the cheek. He was shocked and enraged by what he saw. He quickly went back to the monastery and gathered all the monks. He told them what he had seen and the rest of the monks, they all became indignant. They concluded that their abbot was a hypocrite, an impure man, and a sinner.
-          Upon the return of their abbot to the monastery, they punished him severely. The monks grabbed him, tied him on a post and flogged him severely. When he was already too weak to stand, they threw him in a dungeon, without bread and water.
-          And then, they decided to punish the lady whom the abbot kissed. When she was found, they questioned her rudely, “Is it true that our abbot kissed you?”.
-          “Yes, it is true”, the lady replied. “Do you admit that you have a relationship with our abbot?”. “Yes, we have a relationship”, the lady answered. “Your abbot is my brother. I am his sister”.

What we see, rules our behavior.

What did change is the way of seeing Jesus. Nabago ang kanilang pananaw kay Hesus.  Si Hesus pala ay di basta-basta. And with the seeing a change of behavior, a change of attitude. What we see rules our behavior.

Kung ang apostles ay merong “vision of the transfiguration to hold onto”. Kung meron silang “revelation” to sustain them during hard times. Meron din tayo. Everyday Jesus is constantly revealing his presence to us. Everyday God is revealing something to us. To sustain us in our daily lives, and to assure us of His presence.

All we have to do, is to see things differently. We have to see things not only with our eyes, but to see things with the eyes of faith. Seeing things with the eyes of faith.

This Sunday, let us ask for the grace to be able to see things in a totally different way, to be able to see things with the eyes of faith.
