19th Sunday O.T B (Jn 6:41)
I. “Stop your murmuring!” Jesus tells us today.
- ano po ba ang meaning ng salitang to “murmur” or “murmuring”
- To murmur is not just too bad mouth somebody. To murmur is not just to reject somebody. To murmur is to express disbelief, a strong disbelief about what somebody has said or has done.
- In the Gospel, it means to express disbelief, a strong disbelief about what God has said or has done.
- “Murmuring” sa tagalong ay pabulong bulong, complaining na pabulong bulong.
II. Dito sa readings, there are two kinds or two types of people who murmur.
1. First type, the Jews is the Gospel. They were complaining. Murmuring to one another, with one another against Jesus. “Sino ba ito, sino ba sya, di ba yan ang anak ni Maria at ni Jose na karpintero lang.
- The problem here is that, they were murmuring in the absence of Jesus. Ang object ng kanilang murmuring is Jesus. But Jesus was not present. They were murmuring behind Jesus’s back. Kaya nainis si Hesus, nairita, “Stop it”. Stop your murmuring. If you have something or anything against me, talk to me. If you have no faith in me, I will prove to you by which you will believe in me.
- So the first type of murmurers, are people who murmur against person who is not present or is absent.
2. Second type is the prophet Elijah, in the first reading. Elijah was also murmuring against God. Complaining din nya. He was tired. He felt abused and neglected. He felt taken for granted by no less than God himself.
- sabi nya, “Lord this is enough, sobrang too much na to, masyadong over na to, take my life. I want to die.”
- Dito, ang maganda sa murmuring ni Elijah, was that, when he wanted to murmur he went to the mountain of God and murmur in the presence of God. He did not do it in the presence of other people. He did it only in the presence of God.
- And how did God respond? God fed him. God gave him drink, so that he would be refreshed.
III. My friends, in this life, we have many reasons for being discounted. We have many reasons for being dissatisfied. And, indeed, many of our complaints can be valid. But if we should complain, let us first complain before God. After that, you will have no reason to complain to other people, because God himself will see what he can do.
